OUTREACH

Essential components to the successful implementation of the eSlate voting system were the Harris County Clerk’s dedication to providing resources to area neighborhood and civic associations; development of a successful partnership with corporate partners; and the birth of the Harris County Clerk Speaker’s Bureau program. The response we have received from the community for our outreach program has been superb and we look forward to continuing this endeavor into future election cycles. During the 2002 calendar year, we conducted over 600 speaking engagements to provide educational materials and orient the voters of Harris County to the eSlate voting system. Other features of our outreach program consisted of using the eSlate at Minute Maid Park in a partnership with the Houston Astros, a mall tour of the eSlate performed by the Leagure of Women Voters, full color display features in the Houston Chronicle and numerous smaller events throughout the county.

The Harris County Clerk’s office is available to conduct a number of outreach events which may include events such as the following:

  • Speaking engagements for neighborhood civic associations, clubs, political organizations covering topics related to upcoming elections or the history of elections as well as an on-site demonstration of the eSlate voting system;
  • Local civic fairs and festivals;
  • Conducting elections for private and/or nonprofit groups for the election of their officers. Elections in this category have been conducted for Texas Southern University, International Longshoremen Association #24, employee unions, and other civic groups.

Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee a Speaker for every event, but we will make sure materials are distributed in order to educate your organization’s members.
