Beginning in 1998 Harris County officials and community leaders began the process of selecting a new voting system to replace the existing punch-card machines. Harris County is the largest metropolitan area in the United States to adopt the new eSlate -- or any -- electronic voting system.

To learn more about the eSlate electronic voting system and how and why it was selected, please click on Backgrounder. For information on how the system will be introduced, click on Implementation Schedule. To find out which community leaders were involved in this decision, please click on Task Force List. HarrisVotes! educational videotapes in English and Spanish are now available to check out or watch at all Houston, Harris County, Bellaire and Pasadena libraries.
